Day #798

Size: 24“ x 24“
Acrylic paint and modeling paste to create a raised texture
September 30, 2020
This piece is a monument to survival.  On July 24, 2018, I experienced a severe bout of acute vertigo, hearing loss and tinnitus.  My life has never returned to “normal” and my quality of life was greatly changed by these new symptoms.  798 days after that initial event, I painted this painting as a line in the sand and as a monument saying… I will survive this, it will not defeat me, I will thrive.  Normal will not return, but I will find a new normal and I will find purpose again.
The texture is created using tinted modeling paste.  I used a large spatula to spread it all and mix the various colors.  The “tally marks” in the surface are meant to resemble me keeping track of the days that I have survived with three kinds of tinnitus, hearing loss, and chronic vertigo.  Here’s to being a survivor!
